My friend Kevin asked if I would record a cover of John Cougar Mellencamp’s Small Town for his documentary about Factoryville, PA. Each year the town celebrates its history and its legendary baseball hero with Christy Mathewson Day. For several years now Kevin has been trying to capture the spirit and beauty of the celebration on film (take a look at the trailer: http://www.christymathewsondayfilm.com).
I don’t revisit Mr. Mellencamp’s work very often, but the opportunity has provided a great excuse to bust out the old boombox, lean against the nearest brick wall and thumb my belt loops.
One day I even got up the nerve to ask girls with perms if they wanted to cruise with me, but the only women I could find with perms said fast cars were bad for their hearts.
You can listen to and download the song here, complete with a poorly photoshopped image of my face on The Coug’s body.
